What are furries?
What does it mean to be a furry?
Why are people furry?
What does "furry" mean?

Do you remember being a kid? A young one? If you were an average kid, puppies and kittens were cute, you spoke before thinking, you liked to play around, and everything soft was amazing. Admit it, you had a teddy bear and/or a blanket that you loved. Why? Because, the comfort of softness and all things cuddly was a wonder and, well, a comfort. What if you never had to let that enchanting comfort go?

So, furries are practicers of bestiality and zoofilia, right?

Wrong. Furries are not too different from you. Let me tell you something that may surprise you: FURRY IS NOT SOLELY A SEXUAL FETISH. Wait, but what about all the porn? Yes, some people do have a furry fetish, but not all furries are like this. And even those with the fetish aren't zoofiliacs. If they were, then why do they "HUMANIZE" the animals? Something to think on.

Ok, if it isn't a sexual fetish, then are they people who want to be animals?

Wrong again. That would be hamanimals. Some furries are humanimals, but not all. Not even all humanimals are furry. Some furries don costumes, some don't. It's an interest, not a desire.

Then, furries are just like a form of wolfaboos that obsess over different types of animals.

In some cases, they are. There are annoying people everywhere. Those people aren't true furries, they are morons. They do not deserve to call themselves by the name, so please, don't judge us on the stupids of our group, just like the bronies will ask that you don't judge them off all the Mary Sues, and the Sonic fans the same.

So if all that is true, then what IS furry?

I am glad that you asked. Furries are complicated, yet simple at the same time. There are a few degrees of furry.

Degree #1: The Fan
A first degree furry is the most common furry. He simply enjoys and/or creates anthropomorphic art.

Degree #2: The Orient
A second degree furry is not much different from above, the only difference being he will not have good relationships with non-furries and his love for anthro is slightly deeper.

Degree #3: The Connector
A third degree furry is rare, and more than often a humanimal. He is a furry for life in every sense. His life is his furry heart.

So what is a furry? An anthropomorphic artist, a lover of animals, a connector to the spirit of those around him. Typically, furries are introverted, and many of them are empathic. Furries have a child-like or animal-like spirit and personality. They may or may not don features of a certain animal that they like. A furry can enjoy anthropomorphic things in a sexual or a non-sexual way. They enjoy what they enjoy. More than often, their fusonas are personifications of them, their animal-like spirit, their second half, or the friend they never had. Furry is a comfort, just like your childhood blanket on a stormy night. Being furry is an escape from life.
Furries my have lived or may be living a rough life, and their interest is their way of coping.  Overall, furries are simply imaginative, animal-loving people.
I wrote this to fight the doubt against the furry fandom.
Not humanimal.
Not perverted.
Just... furry.

In case you were wondering, I consider myself a full, non-sexual furry with all the attributes listed, and typically second-degree. Enjoy :)

So, that being said,

Don't know why this didn't occur to me before, but what about monster-people (don't know if there's a technical term for them or not)? Are they considered furries as well, or are they a sub/mutated category?
